Privacy Policy

Who we are

Our website address is: https://theworldexplorers.com. This page is intended to give you an overview of our privacy policy so you are fully informed about how cookies, information, comments, and other important details are handled.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

We use analytics tools to measure traffic and usage trends for the blog. These tools collect information sent by your device or our website, including the web pages you visit, add-ons, and other information that assists us in improving the user experience. This data is collected in aggregate form so that it cannot reasonably be manipulated to identify any particular individual user.

Advertising and Google AdSense

We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our website. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet. Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings (https://myadcenter.google.com/) or by visiting www.aboutads.info.

Newsletters and Mailing Lists

If you choose to subscribe to our newsletter or join our mailing list, we will collect your name and email address. This information is used strictly to send you blog updates, marketing emails, and related content. You can opt out or unsubscribe at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link provided at the bottom of any email we send.

Who we share your data with If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email. We also share non-personally identifiable, aggregated data with our analytics providers to understand website traffic, and we partner with third-party advertising networks like Google AdSense, which utilize cookies to serve personalized ads.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Your Privacy Rights (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and CalOPPA)

Depending on where you reside, you are entitled to specific privacy rights regarding your personal data. We are committed to complying with global data protection regulations, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and California privacy laws.

European Economic Area and UK (GDPR Rights)

If you are a resident of the EEA or the UK, you have the following rights under the GDPR:

  • The right to access, update, or delete the personal information we have on you.
  • The right of rectification (to fix inaccurate or incomplete data).
  • The right to object to our processing of your personal data.
  • The right of restriction (to request that we restrict the processing of your personal info).
  • The right to data portability (to receive a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format).
  • The right to withdraw consent at any time where we relied on your consent to process your personal information.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA and CalOPPA)

If you are a resident of California, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), and the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA) grant you specific rights:

  • The Right to Know: You can request details about the categories and specific pieces of personal data we have collected about you, the sources, the business purpose, and the third parties with whom it is shared.
  • The Right to Delete and Correct: You can request that we delete or correct any inaccurate personal data we hold about you.
  • The Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing: We do not sell your personal data for direct monetary profit. However, using third-party advertising cookies (like Google AdSense) may be classified as “sharing” or “selling” data under California law. You have the right to opt out of this by adjusting your cookie preferences or visiting the Google Ads opt-out links provided in the Advertising section above.
  • The Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Data: You have the right to limit how we use any sensitive personal information (though we generally do not collect this type of data).
  • The Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you (e.g., by denying access to the blog) for exercising any of your privacy rights.
  • Do Not Track (DNT) Signals: In compliance with CalOPPA, we disclose that we do not currently respond to “Do Not Track” browser signals, as there is no uniform technological standard for recognizing them.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the information provided below. We will respond to your request within the timeframe required by applicable law.
